At Work in the East Village
Margarita Passione Introduces Series of Portraits of East Villagers

NEW YORK, NY (June 8, 2010) Margarita Passione captures the heart of the East Village in her series of revealing portraits on display at the Fashion Institute of Technology’s Graduate Illustration exhibit. The opening reception is on Tuesday, June 8, 2010, 5:00pm – 7:00pm and the show will run until Saturday, July 3. The Museum at FIT, located on 27th Street at 7th Avenue, is open Tuesdays – Fridays noon to 8pm and Saturdays from 10am to 5pm and is free to the public.

This is Margarita Passione’s third exhibition, but the first in which her portraits have been produced digitally. As a tribute to her favorite section of New York City, Passione has sought out and created portraits of the people who work in the East Village and make up its true essence. Young, old, new age, and conservative, no one is excluded from Passione’s collection.

“Comic books, vintage clothing, international cuisine,” Passione says, “These are all things that have made me fall in love with the East Village. Melting pot doesn’t cut it – where else can you find such a conglomeration of interests and professions?” The portraits display the sitters in natural poses, and include detailed backgrounds of their respective workplaces.

Having only recently begun exploration of her ability to sketch and draw directly onto her computer, Passione is enthusiastic to shift her love of portraiture into the digital realm. “I was always adamant about staying true to traditional media, so I was astounded to learn how much I can really do on my computer and remain sincere to my vision,” explains Passione.

Margarita Passione is a freelance illustrator and portraitist who will receive her Master’s in Illustration at FIT in May.

My work will be available for viewing in an all-new exhibit entitled Facial Peel. The show will consist of a twist on a modern-day memento mori. Women By Women

Artwork About Women, By Women
Benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure

Allison Corey Fine Art invites you to its newest exhibit, "Women By Women," a collection of artwork portraying women, created by women. For thousands of years, art has focused on the female formm, yet most of this work was seen through a man's eye. Who better to capture the essence of a woman...than a woman? This theory is put to the test in "Women By Women," an exhibition held from Thursday, Septembere 27 throught Sunday, October 7, with an opening reception on Saturday, September 29 from 6-9 pm. The exhibit features a collection of works by six female artists, each portraying women through varied media.
